Chocolate Addiction

[Singapore]

By Craig Wilson Reported on June 21, 2013

Keywords :

I started this month with a sweet tooth and in search for the adventurous, new, interesting and something special to Singapore. The idea was Chocolate Love and Local Homemade Ice Cream new or established to the country. As I was walking along Robertson Quay (on my usual walk from Clarke Quay) to pass by the busy bars, restaurants and cafés I came across Laurent Bernard Chocolatier behind Robertson Walk and thought I should stop by.

Although this location looked pretty quiet in the early evening upon other times I have stopped by Robertson Walk in the late evening (when things start hotting up) this establishment looks the place to hangout (where it doesn't involve drinking alcoholic beverages). Also it seems a good place to catch up on the days events while watching people and local crowds passing by.

Made with pride and passion choosing the finest ingredients (the precious and the best) with rich and intense notes of chocolate from Trinidade, Venezuela or the Dominican Republic there is no compromise. Ingredients include Vintage Whiskey, Fine Tea and Vanilla from Tahiti.

Laurent Bernard with professional culinary experience of over 20years in 5 star hotels and resorts first started at Robertson Quay with his 1st patisserie but a year later started another café-restaurant at Portsdown Road followed by a retail outfit at the St. Regis Hotel off Tanglin Road and at Takashimaya (Ngee Ann City) off Orchard Road. For the first place Clarke Quay MRT, the second at  One North MRT (or take a taxi from Holland Village or Buona Vista MRT) and the latter two places Orchard Road MRT.

The retail outfits are licensed and the café-restaurants provide to banks, hotels and restaurants and are made in Singapore with mainly French ingredients under the supervision of Laurent Bernard to ensure safety and quality of the products.

Quoting Laurent Bernard:

"It is very important for me to know the provenance of all my ingredients, where each ingredient comes from, and who is behind the product that I serve. For example I know exactly who grew the cocoa that I make my chocolates with. Having a relationship with the farmer and going back to the basis is what sustainability means to me."

Passion and commitment partner the chef himself and the chocolates are moulded painstakingly with all the love and creativity it requires.

Recommendations are the soufflé and the luxury chocolates, fine wine, champagne and superior vintage whiskey at the retail outfits at Tanglin Road and find the perfect chocolate gift at Orchard Road. Homemade chocolates, Cakes and Ice Creams at Mohammad Sultan Road and French Casual food in the shaded garden of Portsdown Road near Buona Vista and Holland Village.
